Rafael Montezuma (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Gran Canaria, 1971) is a filmmaker. His work develops a sensory and poetic language through which he explores the human condition from an intimate perspective. With a contemplative approach, his films are built around atmosphere and duration, inviting the viewer into an active relationship with the image.
Throughout his career, his works have been selected for international festivals such as IDFA – International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, Go Short, D’A Barcelona Film Festival, and the Madrid Film Festival. He has received awards including the Richard Leacock Award for Best Short Film in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Best Short Film at the Lanzarote International Film Showcase, the Dimensions Award at the Short Shorts Film Festival (Providence, USA), as well as other recognitions from institutions such as the Canary Islands Institute of Bioanthropology.
