Rafael Arocha (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Gran Canaria, 1978) is a photographer. He develops long-term photographic projects that connect the intimate and the personal with the collective and the public sphere. His work engages with traces of evidence and uncertainty, exploring the relationships between memory, communication, and manifestations of power. He has a strong interest in photobooks and is an explorer of visual narratives.
He is the coordinator of MARGULLO Books, an editorial and educational platform supporting author-driven photographic creation in the Canary Islands, and of FLEJE, a course focused on photographic projects. He is a member of the collective LABARRA. He has been nominated for the Paul Huf Award at Foam (Amsterdam), received the First Prize at the International Image Festival of Mexico, and won the ArtLibris Award. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in collections such as the National Archive of Catalonia and the Museum Service Collection of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria.
