Jose Ruiz (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Gran Canaria, 1968) is a visual artist. He holds a Fine Arts degree from the University of Sant Jordi in Barcelona and currently lives on his home island. Recognized as an important figure in contemporary art in the Canary Islands, he has exhibited his work in group shows across the archipelago and in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Oviedo and Valencia, as well as in international biennials including Venice, Dakar and Havana, and in museums and institutions in Sweden, the Netherlands, Portugal, Mexico and the United States.

According to curator and critic Clara Muñoz, his practice occupies a research-based territory that moves between video, installation, performance, action, sculptural objects and photography. In his mature period, Muñoz notes, he continues to develop a conceptual and object-based approach, shaped by intuition, sharpness and a subtly humorous poetic sensibility.
