Joel Peláez (San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife, 1996) is a researcher and designer. His work focuses on the bodies underlying the production of images, examining the relationship between representation and labour. Through practices such as archiving, self-publishing and mediation, he explores collective creation processes aimed at recovering agency and critically reflecting on image production.
He holds a degree in Design and a Master’s degree in Theory and History of Art from the University of La Laguna. He directs Isla Poligonal, a project that investigates the boundaries between body, territory and representation, with particular attention to how image technologies encode the material realities in which they operate. He currently co-coordinates Onda Corta, a documentation and mediation laboratory at TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, together with Narelys Hernández.
