Héctor Mar (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife, 1997) is a painter. In his work, painting is not a response but a sustained question. His practice stems from a continuous exploration of the fundamentals of the medium, two-dimensionality, texture, composition, and structure. Yet, rather than accepting these principles as dogma, he subjects them to a productive tension, as if each piece were a negotiation between ideas, materials, and forms that resist being fixed.

Through dense compositions, layered textures, and an economy of forms that repeat and diverge, his work insists on materiality as a field of experience, a painting built through friction, through the coexistence of techniques, layers, and silences. He currently lives and works between Tenerife and Bilbao.
