Viera

Gregorio Viera (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife, 1971) is a multidisciplinary artist. His work primarily unfolds within video creation and live arts, while occasionally extending into drawing and installation. With an extensive career, he has developed projects presented in numerous national and international events and venues. His practice gravitates toward the analog, the organic, noise, and the body, as well as strategies of deviation, play, and deconstruction.

Alongside his artistic work, he serves as a multimedia art director in advertising and is a precursor of the VJ scene in the Canary Islands. In the words of art historian, critic, and curator Gopi Sadarangani: “His work is polyhedral, complex and charged with symbolic keys and cultural references. A journey using his body as a tool, alongside the deployment of ideas, processes and conceptualizations, in opposition to bombastic art and in clear contestation of the art system and its mercantilist function…”.
