Cristina Mahelo (Tegueste, Tenerife, 1996) is a multidisciplinary artist, singer, songwriter, activist, and journalist specializing in Communication and Gender Studies at the UAB. Through her work, she explores the relationships between memory, territory, and identity from a sensitive and critical perspective towards the organic, the symbolic, and the everyday. Working across different disciplines and languages, she builds universes where the intimate and the collective coexist, addressing ideas such as identity urgency, the loss of heritage and territory in the Canary Islands, emotional archives, and contemporary insular imaginaries.

Her latest musical work, En tiempos de magua, produced by Belén A. Doreste (Lajalada), brings together many of the central themes of her practice. In it, she explores herself through her own context and through displacement, incorporating rhythms, chants, and symbols from Canarian folklore alongside urban and contemporary sounds.
