Aníbal Martel Peña (Juan Grande, Gran Canaria, 1978) is a documentary photographer and video journalist. Based in Williamsburg, he has worked in the United States since 2011 as a correspondent for international agencies, developing long-term projects that move between journalistic reporting and cultural research. Trained in photography and photojournalism between his home island and Madrid, his work explores issues of identity, memory, and migration through an intimate, narrative approach.
He is co-creator of CISLANDERUS, a project focused on descendants of Canarians in the United States, which led to a traveling exhibition presented at venues such as Casa de Colón, the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C., and several state museums in Louisiana, among others. His work has been published in international magazines, academic publications, and collaborative platforms, and has been exhibited at institutions including the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the Angel Orensanz Foundation.
